As the University of Chicago transitioned to remote learning in March 2020 after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Office of the Provost conducted a qualitative study designed to understand the experiences of students who might be disproportionately affected by these unexpected events.
The Diversity & Inclusion Update is meant to provide an overview of progress made to date. It would be impossible to individually recognize every person and unit involved in these activities. This report provides only a small representation of the many programs, policies, resources, and other tools that were created during the first 18 months of the Diversity & Inclusion Initiative.
The Inclusive Construction Initiative is a joint effort between the Office of Civic Engagement, Facilities Services, and UChicago Medicine to create opportunities for minorities, women, and local residents to work on campus projects.

The Diversity Advisory Council is a faculty-led entity charged with reviewing institutional practices together with members of the campus community to foster an intentionally open community of learning. The resulting report outlines the council’s recommendations and best practices to enhance the priority of diversity and inclusion across the institution.
