Leadership Team

As vice provost for diversity and inclusion and strategic initiatives, Kimberly Kay Hoang leads the University's efforts to foster a diverse and inclusive climate that promotes rigorous inquiry and strengthens the University's distinctive intellectual environment. 

Kimberly Kay Hoang is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and the College. Kimberly's research examines deal-making in frontier and emerging economies, with a focus on how global elites use offshore networks of lawyers, accountants, and financial intermediaries to move wealth across borders. 

Michelle Hoereth is an Assistant Provost and provides leadership for diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives across the University.

Prior to joining the Office of the Provost, Michelle was the inaugural Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy, where she established and led the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, creating high-impact programs and initiatives for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. She was the architect of the school’s first diversity and inclusion strategic plan and implemented key metrics to capture performance and measure progress.

Kim Castillo supports the development and execution of programs and strategic initiatives that advance the University’s priorities in diversity, inclusion, and rigorous inquiry. 

Before joining the University of Chicago, Kimberly held progressive leadership roles at the University of Iowa beginning in 2020, with a focus on student engagement and federally funded TRIO programs. She brings experience in leading large-scale programming, managing complex and multi-site initiatives, advancing strategic planning, assessment, and program evaluation, and teaching as an adjunct instructor in support of a first-generation student initiative. Her work centered on expanding access, strengthening retention, and promoting student success.
