When students feel their perspectives and ways of learning are welcome in the classroom, they are more likely to fully engage in learning. Inclusive teaching methods help in this regard. These strategies help instructors make moves to not only acknowledge student diversity, but intentionally work with student diversity to build all students’ knowledge. This session will provide an overview of inclusive teaching and suggest several strategies for acknowledging and activating diversity. Goals for participants:
- Gain familiarity with an inclusive pedagogical approach
- Define inclusive teaching
- Identify three inclusive teaching strategies to use in their classrooms
This session is open to all UChicago instructors. It will be led by Cheryl R. Richardson, PhD, Director of Inclusive Teaching Excellence at Adler University. Cheryl is a former member of the University of Chicago's Chicago Center for Teaching.
