This open group will discuss Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom. Written in 1994 by cultural critic bell hooks, this set of essays addresses a number of issues surrounding race, gender, socioeconomic class, trust, and education. It will be accompanied by the concluding chapter of Race, Equity, and the Learning Environment by Frank Tuitt. Please contact Cheryl Richardson at richardsonc@uchicago.edu with any inquiries or concepts you would like to discuss.
