COVID-19, Racial Discrimination, and Supporting Asian Communities

Apr. 17

1:00–2:30 pm
Zoom web conference

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about an upsurge of racial discrimination and attacks against Asian communities. This webinar is in response to the urgent needs of Asian communities and will focus on identifying ways to respond to racism and bigotry, and mitigate their negative impacts. The webinar will review historical and current contexts of racial discrimination against Asians in the U.S, as well as its individual and social costs.

Although the fear, uncertainty, and hardships from COVID-19 have surfaced hatred, animosity, and xenophobia against Asians, the presenters will highlight examples when other minority groups have been targeted and experienced similar discrimination. This webinar aims to invigorate the continued efforts to strengthen solidarity across races and ethnicities and other types of socially marginalized groups to fight racism and discrimination.

This webinar is offered by the School of Social Service Administration's Professional Development Program. Please register by Wednesday, April 15, at 5 p.m.
