Diversity & Inclusion endeavors to engage all members of our community in activities that help the University become more diverse and inclusive. Various centers and offices play a key role in helping us achieve this. The centers and offices listed below are led by or collaborate directly with Diversity & Inclusion through the Office of the Provost.
This list does not include the many staff-, student-, and faculty-led initiatives happening all across campus and within respective units.
The Center for Identity + Inclusion creates intentionally diverse and inclusive communities, serving as a bridge builder by engaging students and members of the University community of all backgrounds to ensure personal, academic, and professional growth and success. Through collaborations with a wide range of University partner organizations, CI+I engages students, faculty, staff, and community members through specialized training, targeted support services, and community building.
The Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality (CSGS) seeks to integrate the innovations of the last 50 years in the study of women, gender, and sexuality into the core research and teaching mission of the University of Chicago by advancing new forms of interdisciplinary knowledge that connect academic learning to worldly problems and contexts. CSGS continues to be a location for supporting cutting-edge research on gender and sexuality, and providing a range of coursework, workshops, and teaching opportunities, as well as internship and fellowship options.
The Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture (CSRPC) is an interdisciplinary program dedicated to promoting engaged scholarship and debate around the topics of race and ethnicity. CSRPC produces innovative and intersectional research, and supports faculty and graduate student work. It also offers a variety of undergraduate curricula, programming, and workshops.
The Chicago Center for Teaching and Learning helps faculty at all levels maintain a positive diversity climate. This is accomplished by providing training and resources that foster inclusive teaching. Academics may participate in one-on-one consultations, seminars, workshops, and lunch-and-learn sessions.
Civic engagement is an institution-wide commitment that draws upon our strength as an economic anchor and on the power of education, research, and innovation to create real, lasting impact and opportunity, in Chicago and beyond.
Among its many programming efforts, the Office of Civic Engagement builds the capacity of nonprofit organizations on the South Side and works to remove barriers while developing new pathways to increase local hiring. The office encourages students to take part in this community work by connecting them to volunteer opportunities in local schools.
The UChicagoGRAD Diversity & Inclusion office engages in multiple initiatives to advise, support, and educate graduate and professional students, along with postdoctoral fellows, on issues of diversity and inclusion. The office advises the UChicagoGRAD Diversity Advisory Board, which is dedicated to providing community and an outlet for student voices.
UChicagoGRAD is also undertaking measures to support and recruit graduate students through its Graduate Enrollment Initiatives. This is accomplished through a range of recruitment activities, including travel, consortia, outreach efforts, campus visits, recruitment training, and events, as well as through Discover UChicago.
Equal Opportunity Programs (EOP) oversees efforts to address sexual misconduct and discriminatory harassment, ensure accessibility, and coordinate efforts to provide equal employment opportunities to all employees, applicants, and job seekers. The Center for Awareness, Resolution, Education and Support, Equal Opportunity & Access, the Office for Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Support, and the Office for Military-Affiliated Communities all fall under the EOP umbrella.
